This role will be responsible for managing, developing and delivering a digital and technology curriculum and overall digital strategy for The Isle of Wight College. At Head of Department level, you will be responsible for securing Digital as a major theme across all curricula at the college ensuring staff and students are adaptive to the changes of many new technologies.

As Head of Department, you will also be responsible for the operational delivery of curriculum across engineering, digital computing and creative industries. This includes operational responsibility for the college’s CECAMM campus (Centre for Excellence in Composites, Advanced Manufacturing and Marine).

The post holder will work to promote, via the strategy and the college’s curriculum, our reputation for high quality and technically innovative education and training. The post will actively develop and promote ‘Digital’ both as a discrete theme for aspiring careers and its promotion of skills development across all college courses.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To lead the development of both specialist and cross collegiate digital technology curriculum for full and part time learners, including apprenticeships. This includes developing specialist learning programmes and resources that deliver a compliant, quality, end to end learning journey for every learner and which meets the needs of employers.
  2. To champion digital skills across the college and encourage innovative solutions, drawing on recognised best practice and the latest thinking on digital technology.
  3. To develop external digital partnerships which influence curriculum and direct the College’s strategy.
  4. To be actively involved in the creation of a digital employer forum and managing engagement and partnership work with employers and other stakeholders.
  5. To work closely with colleagues across the college and take responsibility for the quality assurance of learning materials & resources, prior to ‘go-live’ for learners.
  6. To proactively identify and explore opportunities to enhance The Isle of Wight College’s current curriculum offer including funded programmes, new potential markets and wider commercial opportunities.
  7. To actively contribute to external inspection and accreditation of The Isle of Wight College and its learning programmes through participation in inspections and events (e.g., Ofsted, accreditation events etc.).
  8. To work with colleagues to maximise the use of digital resources for the benefit of learners and employers, actively seeking feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  9. To lead the development of new programmes, including establishing appropriate entry criteria and process; planning, creation and launch of learning resources, including those associated with preparation for accredited assessment / programme output.
  10. To actively identify & engage with new and innovative approaches to learning, developing such methods and ideas into The Isle of Wight Colleges learning programmes and content.
  11. To engage with new learning technologies and identify best practice in digital industries (both public and private) and promote this within the curriculum.
  12. To promote the Governments Digital Skills Framework and the Isle of Wight ‘Digital Island Strategy’, including promotion of accredited qualifications within and external to the College. This includes supporting and leading on bid writing for external funding and projects as required.
  13. To have overall responsibility for the quality and operational performance of curriculum within the portfolio of responsibilities.
  14. To have oversight and responsibility for the management of the CECAMM campus.

  9. Proactively engage with new learning technologies, fully implementing them within the classroom.
  10. Other duties as required which are commensurate with the grade of the post.
