Protocol are looking to recruit a University Finance Business Partner based in West Yorkshire.

We are seeking applicants who have experience as a Finance Business Partner, engaging with non-Finance staff and providing decision support to stakeholders – demonstrating business acumen. Experience of people management and development is also preferable. 

We are looking for are individuals with excellent finance acumen. Someone who can develop of medium/long term financial strategies including financial plans and forecasts, excellent financial modelling skills which will be combined with strong communication, relationship-building and influencing skills. You will be able to identify solutions and have the presentation skills to enable a range of audiences to grasp the key financial issues. 

 

Role responsibilities

  • Provide robust strategic financial planning advice and guidance to the Faculty Dean and other senior managers to enable them to acquit their financial responsibilities, in the role as strategic finance business partner
  • Aid in the develop detailed medium/long term financial strategies that are financially sustainable including financial plans and forecasts that align with the Faculty’s and University vision and strategy in conjunction with Deans and other professional service
  • Provide benchmarking data and develop key performance indicators that will enable the Dean to better understand and manage their area’s activity and inform discussion and strategic decision making within the Faculty. Ensuring alignment with the University financial strategy
  • Provide regular financial and management information and advise Faculty Dean’s on strategies that can be used to achieve the Faculty’s medium and long term plan
  • Keep abreast of developments and changes in relevant legislation, statutory guidance, policy developments and working practices ensuring the Faculty is compliant
  • Support, challenge and develop all direct reports and ensure the correct ethos is passed on to the team. Manage the team’s training and development needs, setting clear objectives and actively monitoring progress
  • Provide expert advice on external funder and EU guidelines and regulations working alongside the Assistant Finance Manager. Oversee the financial management of externally funded projects, from pre-award to post-award, and ensure that effective financial controls are in place to manage the risks and meet contractual as well as funder obligations
  • Influence, shape and lead design and delivery of key Finance projects for the Faculty/ Directorate (and potentially the wider University) in line with the Faculty and University vision and Finance strategy.
  • Communicate effectively with and train staff (particularly the financial management team) on the use of Financial and Management information reporting tools.

The person & qualifications

  • Must be a qualified accountant of a recognised professional body (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA)
  • Significant experience of management accounting, financial planning, budget preparation and control and financial procedures.
  • The post holder must demonstrate significant experience in the ability to think and perform at a strategic level. They must also have significant experience of working in a financial environment post qualification.
  • Have experience of organisational change and be able to think imaginatively, have the capacity to innovate and a willingness to exercise leadership.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to maintain high professional service standards when under pressure.
  • A capacity to build a strong team with a sense of common purpose and commitment to overall success
  • Ability to focus on delivery of objectives
  • Experience of getting the best from people.
  • Ability to initiate and deliver innovative services establishing the standard required
