Protocol is delighted to be recruiting for an experienced Financial Accountant (Technical) on a permanent basis with the option of full time or part time in the Bury area.

You will need an Enhanced DBS Ideally on the update service

Salary: £36,000 – £40,000

The person & qualifications

· Qualified accountant or AAT qualification with a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a financial accountant in a similar setting.

· Strong technical accounting skills

· Understanding of Financial Reporting Standards and their application and capable of demonstrating up to date technical financial reporting knowledge is essential.

· Experience of handling competing demands is essential

· Experience of maintaining asset records and associated accounting treatments is essential.

· Experience of treatment of grants and accounting for pensions in local authority is desirable.


· Provide analysis and advice to the Head of Finance on the potential implications of proposed changes in accounting policies.

· Support the Head of Finance in the production of the annual statutory accounts and regularity audit for the College with responsibility for the production of the Bury College Enterprises Ltd year end accounts.

· Work with the Head of Finance in the production of the balance sheet and ensure that the related reconciliations are produced by the team on a monthly basis and any reconciling items are understood and cleared in a timely manner for the Head of Finance to review

· Produce the information required for the completion of the 3 year financial plan model and cash flow templates and to support the management accountant on the budget setting process.

· Oversee the College projects, prepare the necessary reports and produce the relevant recharges.

· Production of the monthly cash flow statement and 2 year rolling cash flow forecast for the monthly accounts, including actuals and projections

· To reconcile on a monthly basis the funding body grants to the contracts both in terms of cash and management accounts

· To be responsible for the upload of payroll into the finance system and the production of the related monthly reconciliations in statutory account format

· To be responsible for treasury management including placing of deposits and monitoring the cash flow to ensure the college keeps positive cash balances.

· To support the Management Accountant on the production of budget reports for the Business Review meetings

· To ensure the College is compliant with the financial covenants of the bank

· To lead on the relationship with the College’s insurance provider including the annual renewal.

· To cover for the Management Accountant for administration of the finance system.
