Protocol are proudly working in partnership with a further education college in Lincolnshire to recruit a Chemistry Lecturer to teach chemistry units of BTEC Level 3 applied science. The role will consist of equivalent to 3 days teaching per week and we are interested in speaking to candidates with the ability to deliver the following units/topics:
Unit 19 – Analytical Chemistry
Be able to Mark the background of how each one works and to be able to use the
resultant spectra to determine the structure of a compound.
o Mass Spectrometry
o Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Carbon & Hydrogen
o Infra‐Red Spectroscopy (IR Spec)
Be able to Teach the background and calculations for
o Gas Chromatography
o High Performance/ Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
Unit 13 – Inorganic Chemistry
Be able to Teach & Mark
o pH, Kw, Ka & Buffer Calculations
o Henderson‐Hasselbach equation
o Complete practicals associated with these in terms of titrations
Be able to teach
o Oxidation & Reduction in terms of electron transfer
o Industrial Techniques ( Iodine/thiosulfate titration to determine the
concentration of Cu2+; Iodine/thiosulfate titration to determine the
peroxide value of fats and oils; Iodine/thiosulfate titration to
determine the ClO- concentration in bleach; Dichromate(VI) to
determine chemical oxygen demand
o Complete practical associated with these in terms of titrations
Unit 14 – Organic Chemistry
Be able to teach & Mark
o Organic mechanisms for carbonyl and non‐carbonyl reactants
o Electrophilic & Nucleophilic Addition on & Substitution on reactions (Sn1 & Sn2)
Be able teach
o Benzene structure & Evidence
o Benzene Mechanisms
o Industrial Processes of Benzene
o Ortho/Meta/ Para Position
Unit 10 – Biochemistry
Be able to Teach & Mark
o Respiration – Glycolysis, Links reaction, Krebs Cycle & Electron Transport
o Practical investigation on the factors effecting Respiration
Be able to Teach
o Photosynthesis‐ Light and Dark Reactions
The person & qualifications
- A Teaching qualification
- A degree in Chemistry / Material Science / Biochemistry or related
- A DBS on the update service (or willing to obtain)
- Available without notice for an immediate start
