A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a dynamic individual who is qualified to teach Economics to join a forward-thinking College in Nottinghamshire to develop and teach on the A Level programme of study. The primary focus will be teaching on the A Level Economics programme. 

It is essential you are qualified to degree level in the appropriate subject and possess a teaching qualification. Candidates should have experience of successfully delivering in post 16 education, ideally A Level within a college or school environment would be considered. You will be a highly self-motivated, energetic and driven individual, encompassing a strong sense of autonomy. You will possess strong presentation and communication skills and be able to demonstrate achievement of targets.

You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrate evidence of working flexibly, collaboratively and effectively to enable learners to excel. It is essential that you have the ability to build productive relationships, display excellent organisational and administrative skills and demonstrate a flexible and learner-centred approach.  You will be a role model for college learners and will work to the classroom professional standards.

This position is part-time (0.4), you will be required to work 14.8 hours per week on a flexible basis. You will be entitled to 32 days leave, plus bank holidays. The college operates a contributory Average Salary Pension Scheme (Teachers’ Pensions). The salary will be within the Qualified Delivery Scale, £27,500 to £35,360 per annum (pro rata for part time hours, £11,000-£14,144).

Role responsibilities

  • Ensure a high-quality learning experience is taught that enables learners to make swift, good progress.
  • To implement approaches and techniques that are bespoke to the needs of students.
  • To work collaboratively including the sharing of resources with mathematics colleagues in order to secure excellent outcomes for learners.
  • To assess learners accordingly to agreed assessment stipulation.
  • To attend team meetings to review learners’ progress, agree specific teaching approaches, plan specific interventions and the impact of these actions with the intention to ensure all learners excel.
  • Set and monitor targets with learners to consistently support their progress and achievement of at least their minimum target grade.
  • To help implement the College’s quality improvement processes, contribute to evaluative quality assurance reviews and the self-assessment process and subsequent planning.
  • To set high expectations of learners and maintain appropriate standards of learner behaviour and their attitudes to work including the setting of and review of independent work outside the classroom.

The person & qualifications

  • Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLs) or equivalent, e.g. Certificate in Education/PGCE
  • Educated to degree level in Economics (or a related subject)
  • Recent and relevant experience of teaching and coaching learners aged 16-18 in a college or school setting
  • Recent experience of delivering A level in an educational sector
  • Evidence that you are able to apply effective, flexible  approaches to teaching and coaching with different levels and learner cohorts
  • Level 2 (minimum) qualification within English and Maths
