The role

You will be assessing practical and theory to level 3 within Carpentry and Joinery. Paying up to £34,000k per annum (this may be negotiable) depending on qualification and experience! 35 days plus bank holiday and automatic enrolment in to the teachers pension scheme are just some of the benefits you’ll receive. Assessors will also have their parking and mileage covered. 

The role of Assessor is to equip students with skills for their future through the delivery of outstanding education and training and inspire students to achieve their potential. This role offers you the opportunity to do this every day. It is the job satisfaction that comes from this that makes a teaching role special.

As well as assessing, Assessors play an important role in providing pre and on-course guidance that supports learners through to successful outcomes. You will therefore undertake activities which will include learner interviews and enrolment, and other marketing and public relations activities associated with the course. This may include liaison with parents and guardians’ schools, industry, the community and other organisations to identify requirements, promote the College and recruit learners.

As Carpentry and Joinery Assessor your main duties will include: 

You will teach and assess on a range of courses and learning programmes, appropriate to your skills and qualifications. You will undertake all necessary planning, preparation and assessment to ensure excellent teaching and learning occurs.
To support learners to provide evidence on behaviours, underpinning knowledge, work-based skills, learning & overall progress for each apprentice.
To provide coaching and skills support to ensure successful timely completion of End Point
Assessment (EPA).
Work with curriculum colleagues to check learner progress is to agreed targets in
preparation of tripartite reviews.
To conduct regular tripartite reviews with the apprentice line manager and apprentice to
successfully complete timely EPA.
To support the development and progression of a caseload of apprentices through onsite
workplace visits in the creation of showcase evidence such as observations, reflective
accounts, witness testimonies, professional discussions and any further evidence to
support EPA requirements, this evidence will be documented within the e-portfolio
To highlight & document any operational issues to the line manager which may affect
learner progression as appropriate.
To set achievable tasks and provide support throughout the apprentice journey including
assisting the apprentice to be prepared for any applicable qualification including
functional skills, end point assessment, and other relevant achievement documentation
To support employers in understanding & documenting their responsibilities relating to
on and off job training requirements of the apprentice.
To provide pastoral support to apprentices as required including on & off the job
training/e-portfolio usage and any additional support needs & strategies.
To provide advice, guidance & training regarding Safeguarding, British Values, Prevent
and Equality & Diversity and be responsible for ensuring that the workplace provides an
ongoing safe environment.
To meet with the employer & learner to agree EPA readiness
General administration tasks including; ensuring accurate learner data within all software
packages, monitoring learner attendance & targets, completing all required
documentation within the agreed timescales and regular use of Outlook calendars.
To participate & document in all professional development as required

The person and specification.

Experience of Assessing Carpentry and Joinery to level 3 or within a relevant subject. 
Relevant work experience in industry (desirable but not essential).
Literacy and Numeracy at Level 2 or above.
Hold a Assessing qualification or be open to obtaining one. 
Able to deliver to students of all levels and abilities, and to use flexible and innovative methods of delivery as required. 
Able to develop effective links with industry/commerce and promote a positive image of the College.
Willing to undertake any training connected with the post and update own CPD.
Have a DBS on the update service or be willing to get one!
