We are working with a fantastic college in Kingston who are looking for a Well-being and Counselling Adviser for an immediate start! Required  for 23 hours per week from Monday – Thursday, our client is offering an hourly rate of between £18 – £22 per hour plus holiday pay. This position may have the opportunity to become permanent for the right candidate and if so, the salary ranges from £28,119 – £29,838 pro rata, per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Role responsibilities

  • The Wellbeing and Counselling Advisor will provide high quality, confidential, time-bound Counselling and Pastoral support for students experiencing emotional difficulties in line with service referral thresholds and BACP guidelines. 

  • The post-holder will provide responsive and flexible financial support in the Student Support centre. 

  • The role will work in close liaison with students, staff and external organisations to safeguard students through a holistic package of support (including enrichment) tailored to meet their needs.

  • Take appropriate and timely action to safeguard students, providing a consistent and professional service. Identify and report Safeguarding concerns, using the College’s internal and external procedures and provide ongoing support to a caseload of students identified as at risk under the supervision of the Service Head

 

The person & qualifications

  • Significant understanding and experience of providing a professional Counselling/Wellbeing service, preferably in an educational/FE environment with young people and/or adults.

  • Interviewing skills and experience.       

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – both oral and written (to include empathy, discretion and confidentiality with both internal and external customers).             

  • Ability to build strong relationships and rapport with a wide range of customers, along with experience of liaising with specialist external agencies.           

  • Knowledge of safeguarding practices, external support agencies, data protection regulations, and referral procedures in relation to student information.               

  • Demonstrate some knowledge of Government funding schemes for FE students and associated criteria.                 

  • The ability to work well: independently and in a team with staff, students / parents/ external partners with a calm and positive ‘can-do’ pro-active attitude.       

  • Strong IT/administration skills to effectively record and market all service delivery using applications such as: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, College intranet/website, Social media outlets Pro-monitor/EBS as well as a willingness to undertake further training in the use of College software.
