The Department of Humanities & Law is part of the Faculty of Media and Communication which is one of the largest of its kind in the world and has a global reputation for combining practice, research, and teaching. Law at BU hosts the Centre for Intellectual Property Policy & Management ‘CIPPM’ one of the foremost research centres in this area. Alongside this, we are building our research specialisms in human rights, social justice and in legal practice with research expertise in corporate law, commercial law, business regulation and legal education. The successful candidate will be invited to join a research centre/s aligned to their practice and/or research.
We have a flourishing academic culture in Law. We work in partnership with our students to co-create research and foster their ambitions. Our Law undergraduate programme includes a range of degrees: Law, and pathways in Law with Legal Practice, Law with Politics, and Law, Media and Creative industries, all of which are Qualifying Law Degrees. We also deliver successful postgraduate academic and professional courses. We have a newly revalidated the LLM in Legal Practice, which contains our Legal Practice Course, and a framework of LLMs, with a variety of specialisms including Public International Law, International Commercial Law, Intellectual Property Law. We have a growing body of PhD students.
We are seeking to recruit a candidate with legal practice experience to join our LLM and LLB teams. Teaching will predominantly be on the LLM in Legal Practice and you will be part of our team developing our educational response to the Solicitors’ Qualifying Examinations. The next phase of our growth is to develop an Industry Board and Law Clinic. You’ll be central in the development of these initiatives. You may already be an academic or be coming straight from practice. You will be familiar with information technology and have the ability to develop innovative learning experiences for students in online, mixed mode and face to face delivery. In addition to your knowledge of legal skills, is anticipated that your area of specialism will align to one or more of the following:
- Business law
- Property law
- Legal Skills
- Advanced Litigation
- Client in the Community
You will have Professional Practice experience and qualification (Legal Practice Course) or a Masters equivalent, and have the ability to create and disseminate knowledge at an equivalent level. You will have the capability to convert this knowledge into a doctorate in a maximum of 3-5 years from date of appointment. Alternatively, you may also have. You will be active in Professional Practice and committed to a culture of academic excellence and continuous improvement.
