Centres extend from its base at York, throughout Yorkshire, Cumbria, and the North East.

Ofsted assured as a Good college, with a recent Outstanding residential care standards grade and an excellent academic record, it is an impressive college in every aspect. Keen to continue to build on its reputation and performance, the new Principal & Chief Executive will strengthen the College’s position and identity, building further on its success at a pivotal time, working alongside the Corporation to determine the strategic direction of the organisation over the forthcoming years.
You will be a proven, ambitious senior leader, tuned in to today’s many sector challenges with innovative ideas and foresight to position the college to meet the next ones. You may be an established Principal or CEO looking for a new challenge or a highly accomplished Deputy or Vice Principal ready now to lead your own college. You will have GFE or specialist land based experience with a proven record of high achievement ideally within a curriculum or skills background, and possess strong business and financial acumen. Above all you will have the ability to inspire those around you and the passion to reshape the college to maximise the potential for its learners across the North of England. Askham Bryan College is one of the largest land-based and land-related colleges in England operating over three campuses and five centres across the North of England. It originally opened in January 1948 with the first students enrolled on residential courses at the then, Yorkshire Institute (West Riding) of Agriculture. Until 1964, only agriculture and horticulture courses were available, then during the 1970s the range of subjects was broadened and higher education (HE) qualifications were also added.
Today the College has a turnover of circa £35 million and offers a range of full and part-time specialist land-based and land-related part-time courses at all levels from Entry Level to Level 7, together with a wide range of apprenticeships, including higher level.

The College has campuses across the North of England. The main campus is at York. The College has two other campuses at Newton Rigg, close to Penrith in Cumbria and at Stewart Park in Middlesbrough. The York and Penrith campuses have College farms. Following a successful heritage lottery fund grant, the Middlesbrough campus which, opened in September 2017, has been transformed into a high-end industry standard animal management facility. The College also has smaller centres in Hexham, Saltaire, Wakefield, Thirsk and Gateshead.
The College offers residential accommodation at the York Campus and Newton Rigg Campus (Penrith). Approximately 300 16-18 full time FE residential students live across the two campuses, plus HE students at York. The Student Union work hard to run events, activities and clubs to make the student experience the best it can be.
Whichever centre students opt to study at, they enjoy access to a great range of facilities available across the whole College in some of the country’s most stunning countryside. The vast estate creates an ideal platform for students’ experiential and applied learning which includes an Animal Management, Wildlife and Conservation Centre – a fully licensed zoo accredited by BIAZA, which also houses fully licensed kennels and cattery, alongside a companion wing complete with training facilities, horticultural grounds, Science Centre, Agri-tech Innovation Centre dedicated to advanced agriculture and engineering training, Learning Resource Centres and Equestrian Centre.
