Here at Protocol, we know all about the importance of good people, we pride ourselves in ‘placing people first’ and have been doing so for 25 years now!

Our business is full of great people, and you may only interact with one or two in your work with us, but there is a whole army of support in the background from IT to Marketing and Compliance to Recruitment Consultants. We thought it was important for you to find out a bit more about the people that make up #TeamProtocol. In this series, you will find out a bit about the person behind the screen, or at the end of the phone.

To continue the Protocol Spotlight series, we would like to introduce you to Karen Ranson, eSafeguarding Commercial Manager. Karen has been part of the Protocol Family since 2006, and is based at Head Office in Nottingham. Here’s what we found out about Karen:

  1. What car do you drive?

DX3 – small and nippy, I love it!

  1. What is your favourite food?

I love anything spicy. A nice homemade curry goes down a treat.

  1. What is your favourite drink?

A good cup of tea, a nice glass of red wine or a mojito (in any order)!

  1. What is your favourite film, book or TV show?

Lets go with TV show…it has to be Friends. A total classic which stands the test of time. You can always find an episode of Friends playing somewhere if you channel hop, and it always gets me laughing even if I only watch it for a couple of minutes.

  1. What is your dream holiday destination?

Hawaii – I went in 2016 and it was the best holiday ever. I’m definitely going back one year soon.

  1. Do you have any hobbies?

I love gardening. I have a beautiful garden (if I do say so myself) and also grow veggies.

  1. Tell us a fun fact about yourself.

On holiday in Las Vegas many moons ago I sat in the front row of the musical EFX, and the star David Cassidy sat on the edge of the stage holding my hand and singing to me. I’m sure some of the audience would have been thrilled if it happened to them, but I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me!

  1. What sports teams do you follow?

I love athletics, so support any GB team.

  1. Do you have any hidden talents?

I volunteer at my local youth group so am a dab hand at keeping a large group of excitable teens in control!

  1. What’s your dream car?

Cars are not really my thing. As I’m getting older I dream of getting an SUV so I don’t have to bend to get in. Sad but true!

  1. What was your dream job as a child?

I always wanted to be an air hostess so I could see the world!

  1. What’s your favourite song, band or artist?

I find that I want to listen to different bands or songs depending on my mood, so it really varies. Generally, I find that anything from the 80’s is a winner.

  1. What one skill or talent would you love to be able to master?

I would really love to master the piano. I can play a few bits and bobs but I’m definitely no Mozart!

  1. What’s your favourite time of year?

Spring for sure. I love it when everything is bursting into life!

  1. If you could time travel, what year would you go back, or forward to and why?

I would go back to when my grandma was still alive. She was my total hero.

  1. Do you have any pets?

A fish called Chadwick and a snail called Turbo.

  1. And finally, why do you love working at Protocol?

I have been lucky to work with a great bunch of people in the 3 roles I’ve had at Protocol through the years. The teams have always been really supportive of each other, which is key to create a good working environment. I’ve certainly worked with some characters and have been lucky to have some fantastic clients too.

Keep your eyes peeled for the next instalment of Protocol Spotlight…
