Selby College, looking to appoint a new principal after the retirement of the longest serving principal in the sector (26 years in the role), approached several senior recruitment providers to tender for support.

Protocol submitted a comprehensive and competitively priced proposal, and it was clear there was immediate rapport between the college and Ian Sackree and David Beynon – who head up the senior executive recruitment offering at Protocol.

After a meeting at the college and a discussion about Protocol’s approach, Selby College were pleased to enter into an exclusive recruitment partnership for the role with Protocol.

The project

Not only did the previous principal’s long tender of service mean there was a challenge to fill the role, Selby College’s position as one of the smallest colleges in the sector also posed a challenge; while successful, the college’s size meant the post was unlikely to attract experienced principals.

Selby College opted for Protocol’s full senior executive recruitment package, which included:
  • Print and online advertising in sector publications
  • Social media advertising
  • Headhunting and search and selection

Protocol offset the challenges by approaching local sector leaders who were ready or looking for a step up into the role – this approach worked and resulted in a strong shortlist of appointable candidates.

The outcome

In just 9 weeks, Protocol were able to successfully appoint a fantastic new principal who settled in well.
