Apply nowProtocol is working closely with a college based in Merseyside to help recruit for a motivated and enthusiastic Science Technician. The successful candidate will provide technical support across the range of science disciplines, including Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and more specialised areas including Forensic Science and Animal Management. The client is committed to providing a range of courses to all learners and is looking expand the business support term.
The Role:
- Full-time/perm, Mon-Fri, 37hrs per week, term-time only.
- Preparation of solutions and equipment for science practicals.
- Provide laboratory support to teaching staff in the delivery of individual or group project/practical work.
- Maintaining the learning environment in accordance with health and safety requirements.
- Monitoring student safety and the operation of good practice within the learning environment (including advising staff on relevant Health & safety issues & contributing to preparation of risk assessments).
- Ensure that the maintenance of all equipment in the laboratories is efficiently managed through a programme of preventative/planned maintenance.
- Manage science stores, including safe storage of chemicals, & ordering and stock control of consumables and capital items.
- Maintain stock control and keep accurate inventory of chemicals and equipment.
- Participate in promotional activities as appropriate.
- Ensure that consumable science equipment and materials are managed efficiently and ordered from appropriate suppliers when necessary.
- Liaise with external agencies in the efficient maintenance of equipment not covered within the planned maintenance programme.
- Undertaking other duties which may be reasonably required in connection with the post, which may, on occasion, be at other locations associated with the College.
- To undertake first aid duties as required.
- Contribute to the development of learning material as appropriate.
- Attending meetings as required and supporting the Science Curriculum Leader and Head of Faculty in monitoring and control of consumable and capital equipment.
The person:
We are therefore seeking passionate individuals with a background in Sciences with relevant academic qualifications.

- L3+ in relevant academic subject.
- L2 Maths & English.
- Ideally experience in an educational setting.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- A positive approach to learner engagement and progress.
