Job Title: 2nd Line ICT Support Technician

Location:

East Midlands, Lincolnshire-based College

Job Type:

Permanent, expected to work full-time hours (some evening work required up until 8 pm)

Salary:

£28,000 – £32,567 per annum

Job Duties:

  • Provide first and second-line technical support to Boston College students and staff.
  • Provide first and second-line support for computer applications and operating systems (Windows and Apple Mac) used by the college.
  • Respond to Boston College IT Helpdesk where tickets have been escalated by first-line support, including recording and monitoring the progress of all incidents and requests. Ensuring all calls and tickets are effectively managed and owned through resolution and closure.
  • Accountable for achieving 2nd level fix rate under departmental KPIs by developing and maintaining a good overall knowledge of the IT Services and Infrastructure supported by them.
  • Contribute innovative ideas for the use of applications.
  • Maintain the running of PC software environments by diagnosing and fixing faults on the various software packages and operating systems used on College PCs.
  • Maintain the running of PC hardware, which includes diagnosis and repair of hardware faults and damaged equipment.
  • Maintain the running of the College network servers which consists of aiding the network technician in installing software, managing the Network Operating System, diagnosing and fixing faults and backing up servers.
  • Maintain the College network infrastructure, which consists of aiding the network technician in the maintenance and repair of hubs, switches and routers.
  • Provide guidance and support to students and staff in the process of logging-in, using e-mail, and use of applications packages.
  • Help to keep computer rooms tidy and within health and safety guidelines, which includes cleaning of computer equipment and supply of printer paper and cartridges.
  • Maintain an inventory of computer equipment within the College/CSU help the network technician to maintain the equipment returns database.
  • Create, maintain and manage login accounts for staff and students
  • Take a lead in maintaining the college exams software and infrastructure and being the first point of contact
  • Work with the ICT Technician (AV) in support of AV services when required.
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of Boston College ICT policies and procedures
  • Keep themselves up to date with software releases, technology.
  • Receipt goods received and ensure they are accurately recorded within the IT asset database. Manage and track the return of goods should a fault occur.
  • Undertake an additional role of responsibility as defined by the ICT Man

Education:

  • Minimum of a diploma or degree in IT or a related field
  • Level 2 Maths & English

Experience:

  • Experience in industry/FE, knowledge of network switch, coding in VB, VB.NET, HTML or C#
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
