Protocol is working closely with an FE college based in Lincolnshire to help recruit for motivated and enthusiastic ICT Infrastructure Engineer.  We are looking for experienced candidates who will provide provides 3rd line support to end users by handling service requests that have been escalated by lower tiers. Support will be provided onsite, remotely, over the phone, or via email. They will be required to develop solutions for complex network, desktop, and server problems. They will have the ability to analyse existing systems and make proactive recommendations for improvements. Implements all ICT policies, systems, applications, and networking configurations.  The institution is committed to providing a broad range of courses for all learners and the client is looking to grow the team.

The role:

  • Full-time/permanent role, Mon-Fri, 37hrs, some evening work required, starting asap, up to £36,750 per year plus benefits.
  • Maintain the day to day running of the computer systems, network and associated operating systems.
  • Manage and maintain the college network infrastructure – switches, routers and cables. Including the installation of new network cabling.
  • Support, update and maintain the college firewall and filtering system.
  • Support, update and maintain the college Aerohive Wi-Fi System.
  • To assist in maintaining/updating the college’s server and virtual server environment (Azure) and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Developing and managing standard operating system images in Microsoft SCCM to provide a high quality, college wide desktop, laptop and tablet infrastructure for the college.
  • To administer and maintain the college Office 365 / Azure / Intune service.
  • To assist the Infrastructure Manager with backups of college systems on a regular basis to conform with the college’s disaster recovery plan and to maintain a backup log.
  • Provide 3rd line support and resolution for escalated service tickets but providing level 1 and 2 support as required.
  • To take responsibility and ownership of complex and demanding technical issues and problems when escalated by service desk and support staff. Working autonomously and without technical support to seek solutions to complex problems.
  • Assist with the installation of new college servers with the appropriate network operating systems.
  • Implement layout of sites, data links, functionality and access permissions.
  • Manage and supervise the logins for students and staff.
  • Liaise with other IT staff over network developments and interoperability.
  • Add solutions to problems to the ICT knowledge base to ensure a high quality ICT support services and to promote and enable customer ICT self-service.
  • Always ensure the college systems and device have full antivirus coverage.
  • Ensure security patches and updates are applied regularly to all college systems.
  • To contribute innovative ideas for use of technology, whilst keeping yourself up-to-date with new technologies.
  • To assess and evaluate significant technology solutions and make recommendations for use company wide.

The person:

We are therefore seeking passionate individuals with a background in ICT & Programming with relevant academic qualifications.

Have you got what it takes?

  • L5+ in relevant academic ICT qualification.
  • Experience providing 3rd Line Support. 
  • Relevant FE or industry experience.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as VB, VB.NET, HTML or C#.
  • Level 2 Maths & English.
  • A positive and supportive attitude to student learning and experience.
