Protocol are proud to be working with an established FE college group based in Greater Manchester in their search for an experienced Deputy Head of Finance for a permanent position with a salary of up to £50,539 – £57,212 per annum.

We are working closely with this college group’s Head of Finance who is currently looking for an experienced Deputy Head of Finance to act as the lead business partner and a key adviser to budget holders on financial issues, you will play a significant role in ensuring effective financial stewardship and seeking opportunities to improve systems and processes to enhance services provided to stakeholders

Role responsibilities

  • Play a key leadership role within the Finance Team, assisting to the Head of Finance and Chief Financial Officer in providing an excellent, customer-focused finance service, that supports the College to achieve its strategic aims and ambitions.

  • Manage the workload of the Business Partnering team, ensuring all tasks are completed in a seamless, timely and accurate fashion.

  • Assist in the development of the annual budget and medium term financial plan for the College,  including liaise with budget managers and the Senior / College Leadership Teams to ensure that plans effectively support the delivery of the strategic and curriculum plan.

  • Oversee the production of the draft monthly management accounts and quarterly forecast,  ensuring that accurate and detailed monitoring mechanisms are in place for both income and expenditure so that variances can be highlighted and explained at an early stage, to enable appropriate action to be taken.

The person & qualifications

  • Qualified as a full member of a main (CCAB / CIMA)  accounting body e.g. ACCA, ICAEW, CIMA, CIPFA, or having considerable experience of operating in a similar role

  • Experience of working in a management accounting role, including producing budgets and forecasts

  • Using and developing complex  spreadsheets and financial / management information  systems, to produce meaningful information and analysis for various audiences (finance and non finance)

  • Experience producing monthly budget  monitoring information / reports, including forecasts and explanations of variance for onward reporting to stakeholders
