Job Description

Position: Brickwork Technician
Location: London
Contract/Hours: Temporary Contract – Full-time, 37 hours per week

Overview:

The Brickwork Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the delivery of high-quality education and training in bricklaying and construction. Working closely with academic staff, students, and industry professionals, the technician ensures that practical sessions run smoothly, equipment is well-maintained, and health and safety standards are upheld.

Responsibilities:

  1. Technical Support:

    • Assist in the preparation and setup of practical brickwork sessions.
    • Provide hands-on support during practical classes, workshops, and demonstrations.
    • Demonstrate proper bricklaying techniques and safe use of tools and equipment.
    • Maintain an organized and well-equipped brickwork workshop.
  2. Equipment Maintenance:

    • Inspect and maintain bricklaying tools, machinery, and materials.
    • Arrange for repairs or replacements as needed.
    • Keep an inventory of tools and supplies, ensuring availability for teaching and learning activities.
  3. Health and Safety:

    • Promote a safe working environment for students and staff.
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations during practical sessions.
    • Conduct risk assessments and implement necessary precautions.
  4. Student Support:

    • Assist students in developing practical skills, troubleshooting challenges, and understanding brickwork concepts.
    • Provide constructive feedback on student work.
    • Encourage a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  5. Collaboration:

    • Work closely with lecturers and other technicians to enhance the teaching and learning experience.
    • Participate in curriculum development and improvement.
    • Contribute to the planning of practical projects and assessments.
  6. Administrative Tasks:

    • Maintain accurate records related to equipment usage, repairs, and stock levels.
    • Assist in organizing events, open days, and industry visits.
    • Support the college’s commitment to sustainability and resource efficiency.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience: Previous experience in bricklaying, construction, or a related field.
  • Qualifications: A relevant vocational qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Bricklaying).
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills to interact with students, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to maintain equipment and workshop spaces to a high standard.
  • Health and Safety: Knowledge of health and safety practices in a practical setting.
  • Teamwork: Collaborative approach and willingness to work as part of a team.
