Job Description
Position: Brickwork Technician
Location: London
Contract/Hours: Temporary Contract – Full-time, 37 hours per week
Overview:
The Brickwork Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the delivery of high-quality education and training in bricklaying and construction. Working closely with academic staff, students, and industry professionals, the technician ensures that practical sessions run smoothly, equipment is well-maintained, and health and safety standards are upheld.
Responsibilities:

Technical Support:
- Assist in the preparation and setup of practical brickwork sessions.
- Provide hands-on support during practical classes, workshops, and demonstrations.
- Demonstrate proper bricklaying techniques and safe use of tools and equipment.
- Maintain an organized and well-equipped brickwork workshop.

Equipment Maintenance:
- Inspect and maintain bricklaying tools, machinery, and materials.
- Arrange for repairs or replacements as needed.
- Keep an inventory of tools and supplies, ensuring availability for teaching and learning activities.

Health and Safety:
- Promote a safe working environment for students and staff.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations during practical sessions.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement necessary precautions.

Student Support:
- Assist students in developing practical skills, troubleshooting challenges, and understanding brickwork concepts.
- Provide constructive feedback on student work.
- Encourage a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Collaboration:
- Work closely with lecturers and other technicians to enhance the teaching and learning experience.
- Participate in curriculum development and improvement.
- Contribute to the planning of practical projects and assessments.

Administrative Tasks:
- Maintain accurate records related to equipment usage, repairs, and stock levels.
- Assist in organizing events, open days, and industry visits.
- Support the college’s commitment to sustainability and resource efficiency.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience: Previous experience in bricklaying, construction, or a related field.
- Qualifications: A relevant vocational qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Bricklaying).
- Communication: Excellent communication skills to interact with students, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to maintain equipment and workshop spaces to a high standard.
- Health and Safety: Knowledge of health and safety practices in a practical setting.
- Teamwork: Collaborative approach and willingness to work as part of a team.
