The job

UCR Specialist Learning Mentor 

We are looking for a Specialist Learning Mentor to join our team to deliver in-house support for undergraduate students and support them to reach their full potential. Delivering specialist learning support to Higher Education students with a range of learning support needs and provide specialist knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Mental Health Difficulties, Autism Spectrum Conditions and/or Specific Learning Difficulties. Supports the provision and development of inclusive learning services at UCR.

Role responsibilities

  • Provides specialist 1:1 mentoring and/or study skills support for individual students with specified needs
    in order to support the student to achieve their potential using a variety of methods
  • Produces individual student Reasonable Adjustment Plans (RAPs) in order to assist in the planning and
    delivery of teaching, learning and assessment support.
  • Reviews the progress of individual students using Individual Learning Plans (ILP’s) and administers
    relevant documentation to ensure that support is targeted and relevant.
  • Act as a liaison with specified academic curriculum areas to monitor student progress and effectiveness
    of student support
  • Advises teaching staff on inclusive learning practice for teaching and assessment.
  • Contributes to staff development across UCR and the College regarding inclusive learning strategies.
  • Reviews and produces electronic and paper-based resources and materials regarding student support
    strategies
  • Ensures compliance with internal and external quality assurance and audit processes to enable
    consistency in delivering learning support.
  • Ensures that full records of support provided to students are maintained and that support hours allocated
    are not exceeded, in order to meet the requirements of any DSA funding and internal monitoring.
  • Undertakes regular CPD to keep up to date with issues surrounding Learning Difficulties and Disabilities
    including ASC, ADHD and mental health, in order to support students, share expertise and maintain
    compliance with Non-medical Helper provision requirements.
  • Contributes to the marketing of UCR Inclusive Learning services, including student recruitment and
    admissions/enrolment activities.

The person & qualification

  • Qualifications and membership that meets the mandatory criteria for delivering DSA
    funded Specialist Mentoring or Specialist one-to-one Study Skills and Strategy Support – Mental Health Difficulties (MH) OR/AND Specific Learning
    Difficulties (SpLD) OR/AND Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) OR/AND Autism Spectrum Conditions
    (ASC)
  • Undergraduate Degree or equivalent
  • Hold a relevant teaching qualification.
  • Relevant post-graduate qualification or equivalent
  • English and Maths qualifications.
