Job Title: Career Development Advisor/Professional

Location: England, East Midlands, Nottinghamshire-based FE College

Job Type: Contract, Full-Time

Primary Industry: Education and Training

Salary: £25,501 – £28,621 Per annum Pro rata (Depending on experience and Qualifications)

Job Duties:

  • Provide professional, impartial and non-judgemental career exploration and guidance to existing and prospective learners through one-to-one appointments, group sessions and online services.
  • Support clients in using psychometric and personality profiling software to enable them to analyse their key strengths and interests concerning their career choices and progression.

  • Liaise with directorates to support and enhance the careers strategy linking curriculum learning with careers.

  • Capture and support when required IAG delivery and services provided by the curriculum areas, relevant staff (Personal Tutors, Employability and work placement staff), external providers and quality check content.

  • Organise and deliver professional resources and development opportunities to staff in order to support their role in the delivery of careers education and IAG.

  • Work with the examinations team to organise university admission testing for students (BMAT, MLAT etc.)

  • Maintain and develop effective relationships with employers, external agencies and professional bodies both locally and nationally to enhance employer encounters, through guest speakers and careers events.

  • Be agreeable to support bids linked with career, employability and information advice and guidance which generate independent funding streams.

  • Maintain a support service to schools and outside agencies by providing career development one-to-ones and sessions.

  • Mentor, support and coach postgraduate QCG students.

  • Oversee areas for service improvements including those identified by evaluative evidence.

  • Work collaboratively with curriculum areas, apprenticeship and work placement teams to ensure that students have access to a full support service tailored to their individual needs and personal progression.

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of the college’s programme of career education and guidance and ensure it is understood and regularly evaluated by students, parents, college staff and employers.

  • Stay up to date with, and provide accessible information about higher education opportunities that promote the benefits of study at this level, and aim to help individuals overcome social or economic barriers.

  • Ensure all learners understand the full range of learning opportunities that are available to them, both academic and vocational routes within colleges, universities and in the workplace.

  • Support the coordination of the UCAS Apply process: provide practical support to students wishing to register and apply; and support staff members in using the online system to write, add and send references for their students.

  • Maintain knowledge of student funding through Student Finance England for higher education and post-graduate funding to support students who are applying and to provide information to tutors, college staff and parents.

  • Keep abreast of national and local careers education and guidance developments and policies to ensure VWNC careers services comply with national and locally defined quality standards and professional practice – (Matrix Standard and CDI).

  • Keep up to date with college programme provision, progression routes local/national opportunity structure and labour market trends to inform career guidance practice.

  • To undertake role-specific CPD in line with CDI requirements and sit on the CDI Professional Register.

  • Support the wider college activities when required such as open events, GCSE and A Level results days.

Education:

  • A level 6 Careers Guidance Qualification, or an appropriate alternative qualification recognised by the CDI professional register

  • Level 2 Maths, English and IT

  • A Teaching Qualification

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of experience in a career counselling or advising role.
  • Experience working in an educational or training setting is preferred.
